This darling boy was rescued with maggots infested in his face and we feared that he had lost his eye completely. He was miserable from pain and afraid of any touch. The maggots were removed, and he was started on antibiotics and pain medication.
By Day 5 the swelling had reduced dramatically and though dressings were painful he was feeling much better. We put this elizabeth collar on him to stop him from scratching his eye and injuring himself further. He wasn't happy about that but I think in hind-sight he will forgive us for that annoyance!
...And his eye gloriously appeared! It was all downhill from here.
The healing progressed rapidly and we were able to take the collar off for the last few days.
After 22 days he is a new man!!! And I think you all will agree, a very handsome man. This photo was taken as he was being shifted into the ambulance to be returned back to him neighborhood in Udaipur. His emergency caller was contacted and was waiting to greet him back "home." We are so thankful for his caller who alerted us to his injury before it was too late (had it been a day or two later he would have likely died from the maggot infestation) and we are so happy for the care they are giving to him now.
Shankar, Ramu and Julie gave him cuddles and kisses before he left!
