Come Volunteer
How to get to the hospital >>>
Whether you have technical skills with animal health care or whether you are a motivated novice who wants to help by giving tender loving care, Animal Aid has the right animals for YOU!!
Animal Aid’s staff provide medical treatment, food, water, clean bedding and exercise but the animals need all that, and more, and it’s often the volunteers who make the difference between “good” care and “extraordinary” care. Please help. Our animals deserve YOU.
It is not possible to describe a typical volunteer experience because each one will be customized to your time, talent and experience. We know we can find the right fit for you.
HANDS ON CARE
The normal volunteer workday at the hospital is from 9 to 5. If you start early you can help with feeding and walking dogs who have been in their kennels for the night. Many animals need special hand-feeds if they are too sick to eat on their own.
The animals always need special care to start the day, cleaning them up and getting them out and about.
Donkeys appreciate being brushed and rubbed, and cows who can’t stand need help drinking. Sometimes you will give water using a big syringe; sometimes you’ll feed a calf with a baby bottle.
Wound dressings and other medical care starts at around 9.30. Volunteers with experience can help hold animals during treatments.
Throughout the day we need volunteer help to provide extra stimulation, adoration J, and to attend to the ever-changing situations the animals are in. For example, a dog who is confined to a kennel for part of the day may also need to be shifted to another area of the hospital for supervised play, and then returned to the kennel.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own brushes, animal toys, or special animal treats (no meat please.)
ANIMAL AID FUND-RAISING, FRIEND-RAISING HELP
Either before, during, or after your volunteer experience at Animal Aid, if you want to extend your help for animals, please give and encourage others to give money. Please email us and we can talk about the many ways you can help animals through fund-raising and getting the word out.
These marketing efforts may be ensuring that Animal Aid’s volunteer opportunities are mentioned in volunteer websites; updating guidebooks to ensure they publish current and accurate information about the hospital; increasing the base of friends of Animal Aid on facebook and other web-based groups.
You may have special skills as a photographer, videographer or writer. We love this kind of help; please speak up if you have either a professional or amateur interest of this kind and let’s use it for animals.
