Thanks to your
donations, the future of this starving mother has been radically
changed. She and her puppies will have a life of health and
well-being, rather than be doomed to a brutal fate.
Sterilization saved her life.
Case history: Lily arrived near death. We picked her up after we received a
call from a good-hearted person in Udaipur. She had been lying
inert for several days while her puppies roamed looking for
food. After a few weeks of Animal Aid’s tender loving care,
Lily was ready to play. We spayed her and inoculated her for
rabies.
Sterilization greatly improves the length and quality of life
for each sterilized dog while curtailing the over-population
that all but guarantees death before two years of age.
Animal Aid sterilizes approximately 10 dogs each day.
All dogs sterilized are also inoculated against rabies. We do not sterilize animals such as cows, water buffalo
and donkeys, but we do treat their injuries and illnesses.
We promise we’ll use your gift to work even harder—on your
behalf—helping thousands of animals this year!
Treating mother dogs with young pups is often a challenge. The
young ones do get exposed to a variety of viruses and bacteria
that can be problematic, but if they are still feeding, natural
immunities from the mother’s milk keeps many problems at bay.

Mange can end a
dog's life within months, but careful treatment brings joy in
just 4 weeks. |

Spay and neuter program: An
estimated 25,000 un-owned dogs fill the streets and villages of
Udaipur District. Because of low food supplies, increasing
automobile traffic, filthy water and disease, a Rajasthan dog’s
average life-span is about 15 months. Recently-weaned dogs
starve to death. Diseases like mange is rampant. During the
rainy season, small wounds turn ghastly with maggots.
